5/16-Inch Heavy-Duty Aluminum Blind Rivets

These large-diameter blind rivets combine an aluminum rivet body with a steel mandrel. Designed for one-sided installation, they provide a practical permanent fastening solution for suitable sheet metal, panels, enclosures, ductwork, furniture, vehicle repairs, and general workshop projects.

Key Features

  • Large 5/16-inch diameter: The rivet body measures approximately 5/16 inch, 0.31 inch, or 8 mm in diameter for applications requiring a larger blind rivet.
  • Aluminum body with steel mandrel: The aluminum body provides good corrosion resistance for many general indoor and outdoor applications, while the steel mandrel supplies the pulling force required during installation.
  • Six available lengths: Choose from 5/16" × 15/32" (8 × 12 mm), 5/16" × 35/64" (8 × 14 mm), 5/16" × 5/8" (8 × 16 mm), 5/16" × 25/32" (8 × 20 mm), 5/16" × 1" (8 × 25 mm), and 5/16" × 1-3/16" (8 × 30 mm).
  • Two package quantities: Available in 100-piece and 1,000-piece packs for repair, workshop, and bulk purchasing requirements.
  • One-sided installation: Suitable for assemblies where only the front side of the workpiece is accessible.

Typical Applications

These aluminum blind rivets may be used for suitable sheet-metal assemblies, equipment enclosures, ductwork, furniture, vehicle body repairs, workshop fabrication, maintenance projects, and general DIY applications.

For aviation, elevator, load-bearing, safety-critical, high-temperature, or regulated applications, the required rivet strength, grip range, material compatibility, and installation method must be confirmed by a qualified engineer before use.

Tool and Installation Guidance

  1. Measure the total thickness of the materials being joined and select a rivet with the correct grip range.
  2. Prepare a clean, correctly sized hole through both materials.
  3. Insert the rivet body fully through the aligned holes.
  4. Use a heavy-duty blind-rivet tool specifically rated for 5/16-inch or 8 mm rivets.
  5. Select the correct nosepiece according to the mandrel diameter and the instructions supplied with your rivet tool.
  6. Pull the mandrel until it breaks at the designed point, then inspect the installed rivet and joint.

Important Compatibility Notes

Not every hand or pneumatic rivet tool can install an 8 mm blind rivet. Confirm the tool capacity, nosepiece compatibility, grip range, drilled-hole diameter, and available rear clearance before ordering.

Aluminum offers good corrosion resistance for many ordinary environments, but the steel mandrel and assembled joint may still be affected by moisture, salt, chemicals, galvanic corrosion, or prolonged outdoor exposure. Additional sealing or surface protection may be required for demanding environments.
